Building an Igloo in Alaska ❄️
Vision:
We will construct a traditional, self-sustaining igloo using compacted snow blocks in Alaska! The igloo will serve as an authentic living space for a week, providing shelter and warmth in extreme winter conditions. The igloo will be designed to accommodate our group of five people and include features like sleeping areas, proper ventilation, and an entrance tunnel to preserve heat. This project will test our abilities as architects and builders while also teaching us crucial survival skills.
Proposed Itinerary:
Spend a week researching igloo-building techniques, buying tools like snow saws and shovels, and scouting for an appropriate location in Alaska with ample snow depth.
Cut and construct the blocks in a spiral-domed pattern large enough to accommodate five people. We will then build an entrance tunnel and ventilation holes.
Set up our sleeping areas and decorate the igloo while finding ways to eat, hydrate, and live.
